Understanding the Quest Appointment Key in Booking Confirmations
Last updated: September 5, 2025
When patients book appointments through Junction for Quest lab services, they receive a confirmation that includes an "appointment key." This key is generated by Quest, not Junction, and serves as an appointment confirmation code.
What is the appointment key?
The appointment key is Quest's generated appointment confirmation code that helps identify the patient's scheduled appointment. In the Junction API, this information is returned as the external_id field when fetching the appointment and in appointment related webhooks.
How do patients use the appointment key?
Patients can use the appointment key as an additional identifier when they arrive at Quest for their appointment, but it is not mandatory. However, it's important to note that this is supplementary to the required documentation - patients will still need to bring:
Their requisition form (lab order)
Personal identification (ID)
The appointment key simply provides an extra way for Quest staff to quickly locate the patient's appointment in their system, but it does not replace the standard requirements for lab visits.
